Matthew Howe was born in Brookville, PA and raised in Summerville and Portage, PA. He earned a BA in Biblical Studies from Toccoa Falls College and an MA in Theological Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary which he will convert into an MDIV at the end of the year once he completes some coursework in the fall.
Pre-Church Work Experience:
Prior to entering church ministry, Matthew served for 3 years as a local missionary director with a para-church ministry.
Appointment History & Church Service:
Matthew served 4 years at Brookville: Evangelical UMC in the role of Director of Christian Outreach Ministries primarily working with children, youth, and volunteers. Presently, he is completing his third year serving 3 congregations in the Minnesota Annual Conference (2 UM churches and 1 Presbyterian church).
During his time in Minnesota, Matt has been able to lead three churches as they have become a new 3-point parish and as they have all learned how to live into that reality. Living in Minnesota, Matt has learned how to ice-fish, eat lefsa, and live with below-zero temperatures. Despite his time in Minnesota, Matt has not learned to eat and love lutefisk!
Matt is looking forward to returning to Western Pennsylvania and serving the folks of the Allegany Headwaters Charge. He is excited to be closer to his family, friends, and colleges in PA and looks forward to returning to the mountains of Pennsylvania from the plains of northwestern Minnesota.
Passions/ Gifts for Ministry
Matthew is passionate about learning, leadership development, and helping congregations to connect with their communities (both locally and globally). He also loves to help people to recognize where God is and has been at work in their lives, congregations, and communities.
Family & Personal Interests:
His family is spread out across Western PA and other states. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing games, chip carving, reading (especially mysteries), listening to music, walking, and just about anything involving water!
