Valerie was born and raised in Blairsville, PA, where she was a member of First UMC Blairsville. Valerie received her BA in Theatre Arts performance from Point Park College, and toured doing theatre throughout PA and Illinois. She also trained with Tentmakers Youth Ministry in Hopkins, MN. Valerie served as a Youth Director in the Twin Cities, and also spent over 10 years working as a Job Coach and Special Education Assistant in Minnesota, Pittsburgh, and Virginia. Valerie also served as the Christian Education Director and Youth Ministries Coordinator at Scott Memorial UMC in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was a historical Interpreter and actor for Colonial Williamsburg, before returning to Pennsylvania, and began a music ministry with her husband Rev. John Mize called Zeitgeist Drama. Valerie developed and has performed one person historical presentations of Susanna Wesley, Clara Barton and Clara Tear Williams. It was during this time that she was called into pastoral ministry and went on to attend United Theological Seminary, where she received her Master of Divinity in May 2018. Valerie has served as pastor at Mt Tabor UMC, Robinson Evangelical UMC, Conemaugh First UMC, and was a preacher on the United for Five circuit in Johnstown. She is currently the pastor at Roxbury St. Paul’s UMC.  Valerie is the mother of two teenage daughters, Sydney and Sophie, and is the wife to Reverend John D. Mize of Westmont UMC.  She loves history, cats, singing, crafting, and spending time with her family traveling.
