Jay Tennies was born in Brookville, PA to the Rev. Lloyd and Phyllis Tennies. Growing up as a United Methodist PK meant going to 5 different schools before graduating from Corry Area Christian School in 1983.
Jay's post secondary education includes degrees from Butler County Community College, California University of PA, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.
He answered God's call to ministry at the age of 17 in the Parade Street United Methodist Church and worked as a youth pastor and at a retreat center before accepting his first appointment at the age of 22. Jay ministerial service has been in the Western PA Annual Conference and includes serving the following congregations: Kent's Chapel, Spraggs, Timblin, Porter, Rural Valley, Whitesburg, Eldred, Johnsonburg, Kane and Bradford Hill Memorial.
Ecumenical service is important to Jay as he has worked with local ministerial associations in each appointment. He currently also serves on the Kane District Council and in leadership for the Conference Sessions Team. Jay has worked since 2007 at Wesley Woods as Chaplain, Preacher, Worship Leader, Coach and Counselor in connection with Senior High Sports Camp.
Jay has also served as the Director and Business Manager for the Eldred WWII Museum for 10 years. In his service there, he worked at expanding the displays and outreach of the museum from a local attraction into a regional asset with international connections.
Jay is married to Angelia Tennies. "Angie" is the Chief Assessor and Director of Tax Claims for McKean County and has served the county for over 20 years. She is also active in leadership for the PA Assessors Association. They are the parents of three adult children, Daniel, Clay and Joshua. They also were blessed to have parented and loved Elizabeth who died of cancer at the age of 19.
Jay loves to spending time with the family, especially the granddaughters in TN. His ideal day would include the family, his guitar, good BBQ and ice cream.
