Bio
Michael Airgood grew up in the wonderful wilds of Western PA. Growing up at Kane First UMC as the son of the church organist, he found faith for himself at Wesley Woods summer camp. Michael traveled to Russia as part of a 3-week exchange trip organized by former UMW President Diane Miller. He fell in love with Slavic culture and the post-Soviet world. He finished out his senior year with a semester in a small town outside of Moscow, Russia.
He attended Toccoa Falls College in northeast Georgia, including a summer internship in Russia. After graduating he taught English in South Korea, traveled to Mongolia to learn about Global Ministries' successful model, and ended up in Lviv, Ukraine as the intern at a campus ministry. Appointed as a standard support missionary working with new church starts, after a terrible tragedy Michael was asked by the Bishop to lead the campus ministry during a difficult time of transition. Michael helped move the student ministry to 100% local leadership during the tumultuous days of Ukraine's Revolution of Dignity.
Michael decided to return to the states to continue his education, finishing his MDiv at Methodist Theological School in Ohio while serving Pine Run United Methodist church in Clairton. After graduation Clairton First and Glassport UMCs were added to his charge. He has delighted in serving churches of the Mon-Valley.
Although Michael has held many titles over his lifetime, he is happiest with the title "uncle." In addition to his two nephews Hemi and Warn, he serves as godparent and "uncle" to many of his friends' children. Michael believes strongly in the love of God for all people, without condition, without exception. He has been actively involved in the work of racial reconciliation and the Black Lives Matter movement.
