Thomas, Dorothy McGinnett

Dorothy McGinnett Thomas, 88, of Canonsburg, PA, formerly of Union City, PA, passed away on January 15, 2022.  Dorothy was born on July 22, 1933, in Mill Village the daughter of the late Willis McGinnett and Louise Kerr McGinnett. She was the beloved wife of Paul Thomas and the mother of Mona Thomas Callahan. Paul Thomas served as a pastor in the Erie Methodist Conference and later in the Western PA Conference  until retirement in 1994.

Dorothy was a graduate of Waterford High School and Edinboro College. She had an infectious and fun personality and was always willing to help others. Dorothy loved spending time with family, playing games and entertaining guests. She was an avid bird watcher, who enjoyed decorating cakes for all occasions, traveling and participating in line dancing and other activities at the Senior Center. Dorothy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. 

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by  sisters: Mae Amoroso, Laura (Herky) Culbertson and brothers: Melvin and Clyde McGinnett. 

Dorothy is survived by her husband Paul Thomas, whom she married on June 17, 1951, daughter Mona Callahan and her husband, Ed of Cannonsburg, PA; grandchildren Dawn Owens and her husband Mike, Paul Callahan and his wife Heather, and Lori McWilliams and great grandchildren Katelyn Owens and Nathan McWilliams.      

Friends are invited to call at Van Matre Funeral Home, 335 Venango Avenue, Cambridge Springs on Wednesday, January 26, from noon until 2 pm at which time a funeral service will be held with the Rev. Rob Willet officiating. Interment will follow at Millers Station Cemetery.
