Rev. Paul Sparrer, 83, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018 after a long struggle with diabetes. He was a retired elder.
Preceded in death by his father, George Bernard Sparrer, mother, Jeanette Diggs Sparrer, brother, Bernard W. Sparrer, and sister, Edna Louise Sparrer.
Paul was a retired United Methodist minister who served churches in and around the Pittsburgh area for 34 years. After serving as an associate at Laketon Heights and Mifflin Ave. UMCs, he was appointed to Pine Run in Clairton, where he served from 1970-1985. He also served Johnstown: Grove Avenue from 1985-1989; and Aliquippa:First UMC until retiring in 2002.
At Zion UMC in Seaford, VA, he taught the Friendship Sunday School Class for many years.
He is survived by his friend and caregiver of 57 years, Donald Alker; and his fiancée Linda Smith; special friend Velma Saire; and numerous cousins as well as many dear friends.
A celebration of Paul's life was held Wednesday, September 5, Zion United Methodist Church in Seaford, VA. Burial at Peninsula Memorial Park followed.
