Rev. William Harold Smith, age 93, of Seaford, DE went into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, January 14, 2016.
Rev. Smith was born at home; the son of the late William O. and Ethel McCool Smith. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II. Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, he served 3 ½ years as a fighter pilot with 11 months overseas duty in France. He flew missions into Germany, Czechoslovakia and Belgium.
Seven years after service in the Air Corps he was called to full time Christian ministry. He attended Thiel College, Greenville, PA, and graduated from Wesley Seminary, Washington, DC in 1961.
He entered the full time ministry in June of 1953, pastoring United Methodist Charges for over 33 years in Sheakleyville, PA; Farmington, DE; Frankford, DE; Dover, DE; Goldsboro, MD; Reno, PA ,and Shippenville, PA. After retirement, he held the rank of Captain in Civil Air Patrol Group 50, Franklin, PA where he also served as Chaplain..
He married his wife of 67 years; Thelma Louise Weaver Smith on January 1, 1944. She passed away October 28, 2009.
He is survived by a son, David William Smith and his wife Joyce Dodd Smith of Seaford, three grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, January 16 at the Atlanta Road Alliance Church, 22625 Atlanta Rd, Seaford. Burial was in Cokesbury Cemetery.
