Reverend Roger G. Rulong, Sr., 90, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 8, 2021.
Roger was born on October 13, 1930, in Morristown, OH and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane K. Rulong, who passed away in 2018 shortly after they celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Glen L. Rulong and Ruth T. Rulong of Moundsville, WV.
Roger met and married his college sweetheart Jane at Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. He then partnered with her in ministry. He was a graduate of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and served United Methodist congregations in Western Pennsylvania, including Cookport-Indiana County, Noblestown, Ballantyne-McKeesport, Dutilh - Cranberry Township, Baldwin Community, First Church - Kittanning, First Bethel - Bethel Park, First Church - Clarion and finally, before retirement, he served the churches of the Johnstown District as superintendent. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He most enjoyed Canadian sunsets with his family. His unconditional love and devotion will be forever cherished by them.
Roger was the loving father of Roger (Kathy) Rulong, Jr., of Collier Township, David (Susan) Rulong of Sandusky, OH, John (Lisa) Rulong of Bethel Park, and Mary Jane (Michael) Novak of Great Falls, VA; grandfather to Evan (Amy) Rulong of Columbus, OH, Kate (Vincent) Sanzone of Carlsbad, CA, Natalie (Kevin) Stauffer of Columbus, OH, Matthew Rulong of The Woodlands, TX, Geoffrey (Gretchen) Rulong of Ann Arbor, MI, Carolyn Jane (Timothy) Mattock of Fox Chapel, John (Mae) Rulong of Bethel Park, Patrick Rulong of Pittsburgh, Dylan Novak of Alexandria, VA and Bennett Novak of Burlington, VT, great-grandfather of Elliot Rulong, Maya Smith, Wyatt Rulong, Vincent Sanzone, Violet Sanzone, Tyler Stauffer, Scarlett Stauffer, Alba Rulong, Marc Rulong, Emeline Jane Rulong, Winston Rulong, Grace Mattock, and Gwendolyn Jane Mattock. Also surviving are brothers-in-law Lisle H. (Hazel) Kunkle of Indiana, PA, John H. (Mary) Kunkle of San Antonio, TX, James R. (Andria) Kunkle of Madison, AL and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. The family will welcome guests prior to the service commencing at 10:00 a.m.
Donations may be made to The United Methodist Foundation of Western PA., Benedum-Trees Building, 223 Fourth Ave., Suite 707, Pgh., PA 15222; noted for addition to the Jane Kunkle Rulong Campership Fund. This fund provides assistance for children attending summer camp at the Jumonville United Methodist Camp and Retreat Center in Fayette County, PA.
