Rev. Fred J. Moore, 84, of Rew, PA, who served in the Wesleyan Church in Western NY and later as a supply pastor for 11 years at Rew and Custer City UMCs, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at the Bradford Ecumenical Home.

Born on March 14, 1935 at home on Pratt Hollow, he was a son of the late Fred Lee and Rhea (Blakeslee) Moore. He was a 1953 graduate of Bradford High School. On July 11, 1953, in the EUB Church in Rew, he married Blanche (Hughes) Moore, who survives.

He worked for Bethlehem Steel of Buffalo for five years and at the chemical plant in Lewis Run. He then attended Houghton College and later was ordained a minister with the Western NY District of The Wesleyan Church. He served as pastor at the Sartwell Creek-Grimes Churches EUB for two years, Hess Road Wesleyan Church for five years, Olean Wesleyan Church for five years, Levant Wesleyan Church in Falconer for 22 years, Cherryville Wesleyan Church in Cherryville, PA for eight years. After retiring, he was a pulpit supply minister for Custer City and Rew United Methodist Church’s for 11 years.

Fred served on the Board of Directors at Kingswood University (formerly Bethany Bible College) Sussex N.B. Canada, Board of Directors at Hephzibah Children Homes, Macon, GA, and traveled on many mission trips to Guatemala, India, and Romania.

Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Blanche, his children, David Moore of Pompano Beach, FL, Jackie Williams of Deansboro, NY, Larry (Karin) Moore of Indianapolis, IN, Debbie (Todd) Roberts, of Rome, NY, Steven (Sherry) Moore of Lawrenceville, GA, Paul Moore of Starke, FL, John (Jill) Moore of Jamestown, NY, Becky (Kelly) Card of Bradford, PA, 23 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two sisters Shirley Reed of Eldred and Louise Elgleson of Illinois, and one brother, James (Cherry) Moore, of Titusville, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Alice Baker, Marjorie Mahon and Loraine Bova and one brother, William Plowman and two great-grandsons, Michael Oltman and Leroy Roberts.
The family will receive friends on Saturday May 25, 2019 from 11:00 to 1:00pm at the Sawyer Evangelical Church with a Celebration of Life to be held at 1 pm with Rev. Steve Moore and Terry Niven, pastor of the First Wesleyan Church of Bradford, co-officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
