Dave Jones, 81, of Clairton, husband of the Rev. Lota Jones, a retired elder, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 13, 2017.
Born May 31, 1936 in Munhall, he was the youngest of four children of Franklin W. and Hilda Elizabeth (Schroeder) Jones. Dave grew up in the Lincoln Place section of Pittsburgh and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh. Dave lived in several areas of southwestern PA as his wife was appointed to serve as pastor in New Derry, Lycippus, Saltsburg, New Alexandria and in Clairton at Pine Run UMC, where she served from 2002 until her retirement in 2010.
Dave was an avid gardener, who loved to play the organ and sing in the church choirs at many of the churches where Lota served. He loved bowling and camping and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, who loved the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by all three of his siblings, brothers Robert and Walter Jones and sister Virginia Mahoney. He is survived by his wife, Reverend Lota; their two children, daughter, Kimberly Vernon of Clairton and son, the Reverend David A. Jones of Lebanon, PA and two grandchildren, Ashley Jones and Jeremy Vernon.
Friends will be received in the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM on Wednesday, Oct. 18 with a funeral service at 11 a.m., Oct. 19 at the Windover Hills United Methodist Church, 6751 Ridge Road, South Park, Pennsylvania 15236.
