Dran, Rev. George

11/21/2021

Reverend George Stephen Dran passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the age of 76. Born February 12, 1945 in Washington, PA., he was the son of the late Andrew and Sue (Iams) Dran.

George grew up near Lone Pine in Washington County and attended Trinity High School where he met the love of his life, Sandra Jean Sumney. They were married November 24, 1967. George attended California State College, earning a bachelor's degree in philosophy in 1968. He graduated cum laude from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1973.

Serving churches in the Western PA. United Methodist Church Conference for over 40 years, George was a true man of faith and lived to share Jesus's call to love one another in many churches, including James Chapel (Finleyville), Beallsville, Greensburg, California and Monaca.

George loved ministering, especially to youth groups. He spent many summers as a dean of youth camps at Jumonville United Methodist Camp and Retreat Center, as well as Camp Allegheny. He retired from ministry in 2005.

In his free time, George loved to bake, golf, play cards read and listen to Sandy sing and play music. He enjoyed summer vacations in Potter County with his children and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his two older brothers: Jack and Ward Dran and his beloved wife Sandra Jean Dran.

George is survived by his two children, James Dran of Monaca, PA and Charity (Bryan) Isaac of Annapolis, MD, and his grandsons Garion Dran & Matt and Jacob Isaac.

George was called to the ministry of Christ and knew that one person alone couldn't solve world hunger or poverty, but that each person could do their part to help another person in need, and in doing so, practice what Jesus said in Luke 6:31 – "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
