The Reverend Emilia "Pastor Em" Burdick passed away on Sept. 21, 2020 at home. She loves Jesus, was excited to meet him and passed peacefully with that ever caring smile that just brightened up everyone’s day.
Pastor Em was born on June 5, 1953 in Elizabeth, N.J. the daughter of Alassandra and John G. Rivierio. She is survived by her loving husband F. Alan Burdick and two daughters, Maria Shoop and Loni Hawn; as well as two brothers, John Rivierio and Vincent Rivierio, and numerous grandchildren that we are certain she still adores.
Ordained in the United Church of Christ, she then was licensed as a Local Pastor by the United Methodist Church, serving both the Susquehanna and the Western Pennsylvania Annual conferences. After her retirement from the Susquehanna Conference, she began to serve as Assistant Pastor at First United Methodist Church in Emporium, PA. It was here she served so faithfully at Esther’s House food pantry.
It was also at Esther’s that she began “Rest for the Soul” a recovery ministry, and it was there at Esther’s that her love of music became known to many.
Additionally she served as interim Pastor at the First Presbyterian Church in Emporium, Pa until two weeks prior to her passing. Em also served as secretary for The Cameron County Ministerial Association. Pastor Em really loves Jesus and wants all who read this to freely accept the love and saving grace of Jesus Christ.
At Em’s request there will be no visitation. However, a Celebration of Life Service will be held on Oct.16, 2020 at 11am at The First United Methodist Church in Emporium, Pa. (All CDC guidelines apply) You may also access the service via “Facebook Live” at that same time.
