Bennett, Rev. Rodney Craig

The Rev. Dr. Rodney Craig Bennett, 68, of Churchill, who served as a pastor in the Erie-Meadville District and Jeannette and with community organizations, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2019 in Monroeville.

He was the beloved husband of 41 years to Rev. Dr. Suzanne Bennett, a retired elder; brother of Allen Bennett of Ankeny, Iowa; uncle of James Paul Bennett (Rachel) and Rebecca Bennett, both of Iowa; great-uncle of Mark and Avery. He is also survived by his little dog, Lily.

Craig was born in Ankeny, Iowa, the son of Loren Wayne and Doreatha Speer Bennett. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a theater major and dance minor. He earned a Master of Divinity degree from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, IL, and a Doctorate in Ministry from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1992.

Ordained in the Iowa Conference, he transferred to Western PA in 1977 and served churches in the Erie-Meadville district until 1982, when he moved to Jeanette UMC, where he served nine years. He became executive director of Erie AIDS Council and retired from full-time ministry in 1994.

He received an accounting degree from Duquesne University and became a CPA and partner at Terry Collier and Associates. Craig worked with prisoners and was an advocate for AIDS patients. He was a caring person and had a dry, wicked sense of humor. He will be sadly missed.

There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at East Liberty Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 15, 2019, at 11 a.m. Arrangements are by WOLFE MEMORIAL, LLC., 412-731-5001.
