Eddinger, Rev. Richard Allen

Rev. Richard Allen Eddinger, 77, of Knox, PA passed away early Friday morning, January 24, 2014 at the Clarion Hospital, following an illness.

Beginning his pastoral ministry in 1962, he served churches in Western PA until retirement in 1998. He preached at the Rustic Acres Campground until last year.

He and his wife, the former the former Margaret A. Beisel started the Sunday School program at the Mount Joy United Methodist Church and for many years he served as a counselor and board member at the Cherry Run Camp in Rimersburg.

One week each year, for 17 years, Dick went to Jamaica on a mission trip. He also did a mission trip to Kentucky Bible College.

He treasured the time he spent with his family and also enjoyed woodworking, camping, hunting and fishing.

Born June 13, 1936 in Emlenton, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Ruth Ferguson Eddinger. 

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, son David A. Eddinger and his wife, Chris, of Erie; and daughters Cynthia L. Hoover and her husband, Ron, of Indiana; Brenda E. Means and her husband, Bill, of Punxsutawney, and Dena M. Johnston and her husband, Kevin, of Sligo. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, one step grandchild, four great-grandchildren and a brother, C. Robert Eddinger of Honolulu, Hawaii.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Hess.

Funeral services were held January 27 at the Mt. Joy United Methodist Church in Knox with the Rev. Dan Myers, pastor at Mt. Joy, and Rev. George Porter, superintendent of the Franklin District officiating.

Interment was in the Mt. Joy Cemetery.
