Zelma Marie (Mellors) Stants, 92, of Irwin, formerly of Youngwood, passed away Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at her home. She was the widow of the Rev. Nelson E. Stants.
Born May 12, 1922 in Latrobe, she was the daughter of Joseph and Eva McCurry Mellors. Zelma was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church in Youngwood, where she was a member of the choir; the United Methodist Women, serving as treasurer for the Greensburg District; taught Sunday school and was a youth leader. Zelma also was a member of the Hempfield Garden Club, where she served as treasurer.
Zelma was the manager of Mellors Variety Store in Youngwood for 24 years, worked as a bookkeeper/receptionist at Woodward Foundries for two years and as a director of gift processing for the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church in New York City, where she retired after 20 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and three brothers and sisters-in-law, She is survived by a stepson, Nelson L. "Skip" Stants and wife, Rebekah, of Mt. Pleasant; grandson Daniel Stants, of Altoona; granddaughter Heather Stants, of San Diego, Calif.; stepdaughter, Sharon Stants Eisele and husband Duane, of Irwin; granddaughters Jessica Johnston and husband, Tony, of Levelgreen, and Kaitlin Eisele, of Irwin; nine nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews.
Friends were received Tuesday, March 3, at the C. Richard McCauley Funeral Home in Youngwood. Visitation was also scheduled at Christ UMC in Youngwood before the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, March 4. The Rev. John Seth was to officiate.
