The Rev. Samuel Jean Weible, 88, of Boswell, went to be with the Lord Oct. 10, 2013, at Somerset In Touch Hospice.
Born July 14, 1925, in Shade Township, son of Jacob J.C. and Martha Etta (Naugle) Weible, he was preceded in death by parents; brothers, Maurice, Raymond, Henry, Lorenzo, Guy, Harry and Mervin; sisters, Rosanna Miller and Erva Rivera; and grandson, Christopher J. Tressler.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former Lois Maxine Younkin; children, Calvin (Daniel Halvorsen) Weible, Lewes, Del.; Vivian (Doug) Gyorke, South Park; James (Sharon) Weible, Mill Run; Gerald Weible, Central City; and Sheila (Jake) Tressler and Kimberly Fulmer, all of Boswell; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Frieda Snowden, Bedford; special nephew, Glenn Rivera; special niece, Gloria Fleegle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A 1943 graduate of Shade High School and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, he was a coal miner, a federal mine inspector and a United Methodist minister. He was a member of Jennerstown United Methodist Church; American Legion Post 257, Stoystown; and UMWA; and a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and peeling potatoes.
As a minister, he touched the lives of many people through his personal commitment and dedication to the Lord. Until the moment he went to the Lord, he led people to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
A funeral service was held at Jennerstown UMC with the Rev. William Blair and the Rev. Chuck Hildbold, officiating. Interment was in Otterbein Cemetery, Wilbur. Graveside military rites by Somerset County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be given to In Touch Hospice, P.O. Box 1173, Somerset, Pa. 15501. Post condolences at
