Burns, Wilma Jean

Wilma Jean Curstead Burns, 85, of Johnstown, went to be with her Savior Wednesday December 31, 2014 at her residence. 

Jean was born August 17, 1929 in Bowood, Pa., Fayette County, a daughter of the late Wilbur J. and Leanna G. Forbes Curstead. She graduated from Georges Twp. High School , Fairchance, Pa. in 1947, then attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. 

Jean held many part time jobs caring for the elderly in the various towns in which they lived, all the while maintaining her home and family. One of her greatest joy's was providing many memorable meals for family and friends. 

She assisted her husband Rev. Richard Burns, holding many offices and roles in the six churches they served. Her ministry in these local churches and beyond has touched many lives.

Wilma Jean had a great love of the written word and vocabulary, she especially enjoyed poetry, putting many verses to memory. She enjoyed God's beauty and lavish love all around her, she lived the example of, "Do everything with Love". Her home and heart were open to all who crossed her path, making God's love available to them. 

She was preceded in death by husband, Rev. Richard M. Burns, whom she married August 19, 1951 in Dubois, her son, Richard M. Burns Jr. in 1975; and her brother, Bill Curstead. 

She leaves these words to her survivors: "God's enfolding love has been with me each day of my earthly life and I am sure He will enfold and comfort those who loved me." They include her three daughters, Sharon A. Thomas (David) of Hollsopple, Pa., Christine R. Zimmerman (Rev. John) of Corry, PA, Bonnie H. Edder (Daniel) of Girard, a son, Rev. Douglas E. Burns (Judy) of North Huntingdon Twp., Pa.; daughters by choice Finney J. Burns and Sandra Burns, both of Dennison, TX; a sister, Leanna "Ruth" Bonney of Owensville, In.; fifteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren and beloved by her nieces and nephews. 

Friends were received at the Oakland United Methodist Church in Johnstown, where a funeral service was held on Monday, Jan. 5. Burial was to be in the Morningside Cemetery, Dubois, PA
