Pennington, Nan Bare

Nan Bare Pennington, 85, of Brookville, surviving spouse of the Rev. Herbert M. Pennington Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, May 4, 2015, at Brookside Senior Living in Brookville, PA.

Born November 9, 1929, in Organ Cave, W.V., Nan was the daughter of the late Charles Somler Bare, Sr., and Nannie Grace Shires Bare.  She was a 1947 graduate of Greenbrier High School in Ronceverte, WV, and attended Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV.  On December 23, 1948, she married Rev. Pennington, who preceded her in death in 2006.

Nan lived her life for her family.  She was a homemaker, who devoted herself to raising her four sons.  All the while, she assisted her husband, a Methodist minister, as he served churches in Massachusetts, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania, including the First UMC in Brookville, PA, and the First UMC in Franklin, PA.

Surviving are her children: Herbert Pennington, III, and  his wife Rebecca, of Utica, PA; Charles Pennington of Wilmington, NC; John Pennington and Caroline Coogan of Alva, FL, and James Pennington of Brookville, PA.  Also surviving are six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were handled by McKinney Funeral Home in Brookville, PA.  A private graveside service was to be held for the family, with the Rev. Sharon L. Schwab of the First UMC of Brookville officiating.  Interment will be at the Brookville Cemetery.
