Youth Seek a Renewed Kingdom of God
By Mollie Landman, Youth Ministry Team Secretary
At this year's youth retreat, SPARK, I was able to Seek and Prepare A Renewed Kingdom of God with over 500 other young believers across the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference for the UMC. This incredible retreat lasted through January 20-22, and was held at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel in Station Square.
Throughout the weekend, I had the opportunity to worship my Almighty Father with Sanctus Real, and I heard our powerful and uplifting speaker, Bob Lenz.At SPARK, I spent my evenings in “fun rooms" to play dodgeball, karaoke, life-sized games, and a jam session, as well as rooms with opportunities for prayer and hands-on service.
On Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend two different breakout sessions that will help me deepen my relationship with Christ in unique ways.
The sessions that were offered included: Learning to Discover Zim Camp with Sandra Matoushaya; Respect and Christian Leadership with the Rev. Ross Pryor; Conference Youth Ministry Team with YMT members; Getting to know Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi; Who are you? Redefining you in 2017 with Heather Shoffstall; Let's talk, Let's share, Let's love! with Conference Lay Leader Sharon Gregory; Fun and Creative Ways to Share Jesus with your Friends with Travis Deans, and What do you need from the Conference Youth Coordinator? with Amanda Gilligan.
This retreat has strengthened my relationship with Christ. It also brought 39 students to commit their lives to Jesus for the first time, and 75 other students recommitted their life to Christ. I cannot wait to attend SPARK 2018, and I pray that God will guide, protect, and bless all the youth in our conference!
