Wesley Woods Hire New Executive Director

8/3/2023

This spring, Wesley Woods began searching for a new full time Executive Director to allow them to continue their camping and retreat programs throughout the year. After an extensive search, the team announced yesterday their decision to hire Joe Illig, who will transition into this role beginning in September.

God has guided that process and we have found a director that has the skills and abilities that we have been looking for,” the camp’s statement read. “Joe will have some great new ideas that he brings to the table and he will have support as he learns more about Wesley Woods.”

Illig studied business at La Roche University in Pittsburgh. Sensing a call to ministry, he received a seminary degree from Columbia International University in Columbia, SC., helping launch their business school and community resource center during his time there.

While Illig has spent time in sales roles in the software and technology industries, his heart has always been with camping. Before coming to Wesley Woods, Joe worked as a program director at a summer camp, leading the residential and adventure programs by setting spiritual direction for campers and staff.

When he’s not at work, you can find him on a hike with his wife, Allison, on the golf course, or buried in a book.

Prior to the hiring of Illig, Emily Reed served for three years as the interim Executive Director for the camp, who Wesley Woods thanked for her service.
