After about a year of prayer and discernment, the Wesley Woods is making some changes in its camping ministry programs, including an end to the on-site horse program, a program overhaul for the 2019 summer camping season, and a partnership with Game Changers Sports Ministry.
"Through this process, we have realized we are at a crossroads," Camp Director Nate Greenway said in a press release Tuesday. "As such, the board and staff together have made some decisions about the direction, mission and vision of this ministry.
"First, effective January 1, 2019, Wesley Woods Inc. will no longer offer any onsite horse programming. While the horse program has historically been an important part of the Wesley Woods summer camping program, in recent years the program expenses have grown cumbersome and untenable," Greenway said. "Please keep the Progressive Horsemanship Program team in your prayers as they determine their next steps."
For Summer, 2019, Wesley Woods will add several new program offerings, including: BMX biking, Mountain Biking, an extensive Fine Arts program, and a revamped Outdoor Sports Program.
The new partnership with Game Changers Sports Ministry will provide access for campers to NCAA and professional-level coaches and athletes for sports camps such as: Acro-tumbling, BMX Biking, Cross Country, Mountain Biking, Soccer and Swimming, Greenway said.
The camp will also offer a new line of family friendly camp programming in addition to some current summer camp offerings.
Wesley Woods is a Christian Camp and Conference Center, located in Grand Valley, PA, has offered summer camping since 1953. in an effort to connect people to God through His Son Jesus Christ. It is an extension ministry of the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference.
