Rob Wilson Named Congregational Development Director

Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi today announced that the Rev. Robert H. Wilson will be appointed to serve as Director of Congregational Development and Revitalization for the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference, effective on July 1, 2021. Wilson, currently the pastor of Zion United Methodist Church in Sarver, was offered the position after the Conference Personnel Committee conducted a search and made a recommendation.

"Rob brings to this position a spirit of humility, wisdom, charisma, and extreme passion for the work of creating new places for new people to encounter Jesus Christ," the Bishop said. "He also brings a history of creating new places for new people within existing church structures and by birthing completely new ministries.  Rob has been able to do this work so effectively because of his spiritual gifts of encouragement, administration, faith, and discernment -- all gifts that are essential for this position."
"During each of his appointments in the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference, including the Bellview Charge, Seneca United Methodist Church (UMC) , and Zion UMC in Sarver, Rob has demonstrated his ability to lead others to try new ministries in order to reach previously untapped segments of the community.  He also created At the Lakes Ministry as part of our Camping and Retreat Ministries program. It invites differently abled children, youth and adults, as well as  veterans, to cruise or fish the waters of Lake Erie aboard the JoAnn M., a repurposed commercial fishing vessel," the Bishop added. "Rob will continue this ministry while working as the Director of Congregational Development and Revitalization."

The Director of Congregational Development and Revitalization provides leadership in developing systems and implementing strategies for revitalizing existing congregations and developing new places for new people.  The director works closely with congregations within the Annual Conference, as well as the Parish and Community Development Team, the Bishop and the Cabinet. Rev. Amy Wagner has served in the position for seven years and will become pastor of St. Paul's UMC in Allison Park on July 1.

Rev. Wilson has a BA in psychology with a minor in elementary education and sociology from the University of Mount Union.  He earned his Masters of Divinity from Methodist Theological School of Ohio (MTSO). During his time at (MTSO) he served as senior pastor of McKendree Charge in West Ohio Annual Conference.  Rob also was a WPAUMC summer intern at Bethany UMC in Johnstown in 1991.
