The United Methodist Foundation of Western PA invites laity to participate in a Laity Academy for Stewardship and Leadership.
This two-year program kicks off with a multi-day generosity event in Lakeside Chautauqua, Ohio, then the group will meet quarterly on Saturday mornings to focus on local church leadership and stewardship issues. The Laity Academy for Stewardship and Leadership mirrors the Foundation’s successful Pastor’s Leadership Academy for Stewardship Formation.
"The Laity Academy is a multi-session, systematic opportunity to be equipped in local church leadership in order to develop new paradigms in personal and corporate life that can assist congregations to be thriving and faithful," said the Rev. Ed Bailey, executive director of the Foundation.
The time commitment for the Laity Leadership Academy is eight gatherings over the two year period. "In addition to these gatherings, we ask that each participant engage in independent study and reflection on various related topics," Bailey said. The topics include: Strategic Planning; Leading with Vision, Mission, and Core Values; Effective Leadership Development through Recruiting; Developing and Deploying Volunteers; Engaging Mission Minded Millennials; Conflict Resolution; Communication, Marketing, and telling your story; and Legacies: Effective congregation endowment development.
