Gifts, Service Highlight Start of Advent at Church

An evening of service and a White Gifts presentation to benefit area ministries were part of the first week of Advent at Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park.

More than 80 individuals participated in the midweek inter-generational Evening of Service and reflection on Dec. 2. They created or assembled items at stations throughout the church building after a  short time of reflection that included a drum circle, litany, song and prayers for those who would receive the gifts created. By the end of the evening, they had created/assembled:
  • 250 toiletry/hospitality boxes for the Pittsburgh Aids Task Force
  • 800 seasonal favors for the Bethel Park Meals on Wheels program for 2016
  • 40 Gifts for our Hope for the Holidays guests (this is a quieter service for those who may be grieving this holiday season)
  • 75 hand made cards for military  personnel who are served by Operation Troop Appreciation
  • 250 bags of trail mix for emergency warming shelters in Washington Pa and Pittsburgh
The following weekend, White Gifts presentations were part of all the worship services. The gifts were brought based on wishes written on 820 agngels that adorned the church's Angel Tree. They were designated for people served by Christ Church's ministry partners:
