Annual Conference 2023: The 2023 Western PA Annual Conference is scheduled for June 15-17, 2023 at the Erie Bayfront Convention Center. Voting members of the annual conference received information about registration via email on March 10. See the AC 2023 web page for information on how to register. New info will be added regularly.

A Special Session of the Annual Conference of the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church was called for Wednesday, June 14, 2023 starting at 4:00 pm in the Great Hall of the Erie Convention Center. Read more

Mission u Event Building Communities of Hope: “Who Can We Be Together?” was the theme echoed by Rev. Mikell and Rev. Rick Nelson during the Mission u event held at Olmsted Manor this past weekend. Read more about this time of learning and fellowship and see photos.

The UM Foundation of Pennsylvania Launches New Educational Initiative: This initiative equips laity to lead the churches in the two annual conferences that we serve in these challenging days of congregational life. Entitled "The Empowered Church Project," the initiative is designed to teach new skills to those who are called to lead the churches of our Connection in bold new ways. Read story about the cohorts.

Black Methodists for Church Renewal Annual Meeting: BMCR will meet in-person from Wednesday, April 12, 2023 through Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel and Suites in Pittsburgh. Learn more and register.

Church court reviews resolutions: The United Methodist Judicial Council released more rulings as it works through its fall docket. Three of the church court’s decisions relate to resolutions about the status of LGBTQ people in the church. The church court also released two memoranda that address requests for declaratory decisions related to the denomination’s complaint process and bishop elections in Africa. Read UM News Story

Pastor's Podcast Features Bishop Muyombo: HOUSTON — The Rev. John Stephens of Chapelwood United Methodist Church invited North Katanga Area Bishop Mande Muyombo to be his guest for a second time on his “Pod Have Mercy” podcast. Muyombo, who is now chair of the denomination’s Connectional Table, discusses The United Methodist Church’s work in Congo and Tanzania and what comes next for the denomination. Listen to podcast 


Grants

The United Methodist Foundation Announces Spring Grants: The United Methodist Foundation awards a limited number of grants to local United Methodist Churches and affiliated agencies of the Western Pennsylvania and Susquehanna Conferences of the United Methodist Church as well as account holders.  The application window for spring 2023 grants will be March 15 - April 17. United Women in Faith Awards Elizabeth A. Brandley Grants: The Western PA Conference United Women in Faith connects spiritual women to act boldly for justice and transform communities. The Elizabeth A. Bradley Grant Fund receives applications from various “mission projects” annually. Learn more about the grant and recent recipients.


UPCOMING TRAININGS

Webinar to Help Churches with Tax Issues: NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Does your church rent its parking lot or manage a coffeehouse? The General Council on Finance and Administration plans to hold a webinar for churches that receive revenue through nontraditional avenues. The finance agency has scheduled the webinar on unrelated business income tax for 11 a.m. U.S. Central time March 28. Register.
