Appointment Change: The first appointment announcement of the “new” season is more of an adjustment than a change. The Rev. Deaths: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 19 for two retired clergy members. Services for the Rev. Lionel E. Sayers, who died Oct. 11, will be at Evans Memorial UMC. Time's Running Out! If you want to nominate an ordained elder to be considered for endorsement by WPAUMC's General/Jurisdictional Conference delegation, you have until 11:59 p.m. October 25 to do so. At least one new bishop is expected to be elected at the Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference in July. Learn more.
Ethnic Clergy Retreat: Fifteen WPAUMC ethnic clergy heard a presentation on the meditative practices of Jesus from the Rev. Dr. Kendrick Weaver, an author and UMC elder, during a retreat this week. Learn more and see photos
Pray and Engage! Central Texas Bishop Mike Lowry issued a statement in response to a Fort Worth police officer’s fatal shooting of a woman in her home last weekend, an incident that led to the officer’s resignation and arrest on a murder charge. The bishop called for putting prayers into action through greater engagement in community life across racial lines. Read statement
Need Sparks New Ministry: When Pat Scrogham's mother was living with dementia, Scrogham looked high and low for something to keep her mother's hands busy. The Joyful Stitchers at Sparks UMC in Georgia created the activity mat she envisioned and gave rise to a new ministry. Read story

Aiding Asylum Seekers: A three-year, $2 million pilot project by the United Methodist Committee on Relief will support asylum seekers in the U.S. Grants to Church World Service and National Justice for Our Neighbors, partners in the project, were approved recently by UMCOR directors. Read story

Guatemala Mission Team: Pray for the WPAUMC Volunteers in Mission team heading to Guatemala on October 31. The team will work with the indigenous Mayan people who live in the Guatemalan Highlands.
