Church Treasurers Webinar: The UM Foundation of Western PA offers a free webinar “Top Ten Tips for Completing Your Pastor’s W-2”. Designed for local church treasurers and others responsible for completing their pastor’s Internal Revenue Service W-2 Form, it is scheduled for  Thursday, December 13, from 10-11 a.m. Register through umfoundation.org or directly here.

Deaths: A funeral service was held Wednesday, Nov. 28 for the retired Rev. Randy Headley of Port Allegany, and a committal service is scheduled at Homewood Cemetery Chapel in Pittsburgh on Saturday, Dec. 1 for Pastor Linda Harrison, who died unexpectedly at her home  on Nov. 24. See obituaries.

Mission

California Fire Response: The Eastbrook Mission Barn sent 936 buckets, 5292 hygiene kits, and 1008 school kits out today for those affected by California wildfires. Katie Peterson, director of the Mission Barn, offered thanks to the people of both the Western PA and East Ohio conferences for their generous donations. Hygiene kits are especially still needed. About 950 cleaning buckets remain at the barn, but there is limited space for storing more buckets in the winter. Learn about current UMCOR disaster response needs

Abundant Health

World AIDS Day is Dec. 1: The UMC Global AIDS Committee and UM Communications recently published a video and prayer.

Africa U Pioneers HIV Self-Testing: An HIV self-testing project has allowed Africa University to measure and promote the use of the self-test kits by students. UMC Global Ministries provided funding through the Zimbabwe Episcopal Area's health board.  Read story

Justice/Ministry With the Poor

Protest Leads to Arrests: United Methodists, including three clergy, were among more than two dozen people arrested while trying to block the removal of an unauthorized immigrant who had taken sanctuary in a North Carolina church. Samuel Oliver-Bruno, 47, had taken refuge in CityWell UMC in Durham for 11 months while applying to remain in the United States to care for his ill wife. Read UM News Service story.
