2022 Mission Impact

Thursday Pre-Conference Mission Impact Event
June 2, 8:00am - 11:30am

Events held at locations other than the Convention Center will require you to provide your own transportation. You are welcome to carpool with other participants at your discretion.

Deconstruction Station - sponsored by Chosen
(at the Convention Center)
Using basic hand tools that will be provided, deconstruct (take apart) items for recycling. Maximum: 8 persons

EUMA Facilities Tour - sponsored by Erie United Methodist Alliance
(driving directions will be provided)
EUMA will provide in-person tours for masked conference attendees of The Refuge (Emergency Shelter for Homeless Families with Children), Liberty House (Transitional Shelter for Homeless Veteran Men), and Rainbow Connection Thrift Store (Erie County-wide Voucher Program and Community Thrift Store). EUMA staff and some current or former clients of the programs will help lead the tour. Tour groups of 15-20 persons will start simultaneously at each location and then rotate to the next location using your own transportation. You will receive your assigned rotation and driving directions by email in mid-May. Maximum: 45

Ramp Inspections - sponsored by All God’s Children Ministries
(starts at the Convention Center)
Each team of two will receive training at the Convention Center on how to inspect ramps previously installed. Then the teams will be dispatched using your own transportation to locations to inspect some ramps and complete the inspection sheet. No tools are needed, no lifting is involved. Ramp inspections provide the list of needed repairs and maintenance for ramps to be completed over the summer while giving an opportunity for volunteers to have direct contact with the ramp recipients. Maximum: None

Ramp Reclaims - sponsored by All God’s Children Ministries
(starts at the Convention Center)
The team will be dispatched using your own transportation to assist in the retrieval of ramps at homes where they are no longer needed. AGCM will provide trucks and trailers as needed to return the modules to storage. Volunteers are invited to bring a drill or driver, a #2 square bit, and a pair of work gloves. A limited number of spare tools will be available as well. Strong backs are needed to do lifting. Maximum: 6 persons

Wheelchair Cleaning Station - sponsored by Chosen
(at the Convention Center)
Clean donated wheelchairs and other mobility equipment. Gloves and cleaning supplies will be provided. Maximum: 8 persons

Friday Mission Impact Event
June 3rd: 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM and 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM

These opportunities will be available for you to participate in at the Convention Center when you need to take a break from the Plenary Sessions.

Back-to-School Kits - sponsored by EUMA
Volunteers will put together Back-to-School Kits (see list below for items that can be donated) to be distributed in partnership with Erie City Public Schools this fall.

Wheelchair Cleaning Station - sponsored by Chosen Clean donated wheelchairs and other mobility equipment. Gloves and cleaning supplies will be provided.

Welcome Home Kits - sponsored by EUMA
Volunteers will put together Welcome Home Kits that provide some necessities (see list below for items that can be donated) for EUMA clients moving from homelessness to a permanent home of their own. Conference attendees can also make use of provided note cards and pens to write encouraging notes and scripture to clients.

We will be collecting Eyeglasses for the United Methodist Mission in Nyadire, Zimbabwe at our display table.

UMCOR Kits sponsored by Eastbrook Mission Barn
The Eastbrook Mission Barn will be collecting Cleaning Kits and Hygiene Kits. Go to the links for details on what goes in them.

Back-to-School Items - sponsored by EUMA

Medical Supplies - sponsored by Chosen
We will be collecting nitrile gloves (any size), elastic wrap bandages (with or without adhesive), first aid kits, and adult incontinence products (any style or size).

Mobility Items - sponsored by Chosen
We will be collecting wheelchairs, rollator walkers, canes (single or quad).

Shoe Drive - sponsored by EUMA and All God’s Children Ministries
The EUMA box truck will be in the Convention Center parking lot to collect shoes. Serviceable, used shoes rubber banded together and no more than 25 pairs of shoes per garbage bag.
