About the District
Centered in the breath-taking Laurel Highlands, the Johnstown District encompasses all of Cambria County, as well as portions of Somerset, Bedford, Clearfield, and Indiana counties. The Johnstown District is home to 84 United Methodist churches – some are small, others are large; some are single-point churches, while others share ministry on multi-point charges or cooperative parishes; some are located in the city, while others are found in small towns and rural settings; some offer traditional expressions of worship, while others praise God through contemporary worship! No matter the differences among the churches of the Johnstown District, all have a passion for serving Jesus Christ! Across the Johnstown District, United Methodist clergy and laity are striving to make disciples for Jesus and transform the world for the sake of our Savior! Among some of the notable ministries on the District are Johnstown United Methodist Human Services, a mission agency that has been offering tangible resources to persons in need since 1977; Arbutus Park, a retirement community rooted in the United Methodist tradition that offers multiple living options for older persons; and JUMP, a volunteer home repair ministry centered in the city of Johnstown that has recently expanded into offering transitional housing for men seeking a more stable life. In addition to these particular ministries, all of our churches on the Johnstown District are involved in implementing and supporting local, national and international missions and ministries. Welcome to the Johnstown District – a place where Christ is faithfully proclaimed and lives are changed!
