About Oakmont U M Church
Oakmont United Methodist Church is a small vital congregation in the midst of a quaint community on the outskirts of urban Pittsburgh.  Easy access to downtown and the Pennsylvania Turnpike make it an ideal community to live.  Two notable landmarks are the Oakmont Bakery and Oakmont Country Club (home of numerous U.S. Opens), and many green spaces to walk and gather. Both the elementary and jr.-senior high schools are in walking distance of most of the housing in Oakmont. The stated purpose of this church is: to grow in our dedication to the worship of God, the teaching of God’s word and the caring ministry of Christ.  We do this through Jesus’ grace, mercy, and love which we share with the world through our daily living. We have a very active outreach in the community through local missions and our mission outreach to the community is growing all the time and through partnerships with other UMCs.. Covid 19 and it's protocols has made it hard to do some of the mission fundraising that we are known for more difficult, but we seek to be faithful. Worship is provided in both traditional and contemporary praise and chorus styles. Contemporary worship includes many of our high school youth in music and leadership positions, and that form of worship ministers to our young families and children.  Preaching and teaching are presented in classical Biblical based formats. There is a dedicated, enthusiastic core group for the study of God's word and how that sheds light on God's living Word, Jesus the Christ. The emphasis is on living in a vital relationship with Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and Lord and from 2020-2022 there has been a new emphasis on our communal sanctification and call to do outreach. A strong effort is practiced to minister to children, youth and families.  The care of seniors, the grieving and the sick is also a priority. The Caring Ministry is a lay-led group of volunteers that reach out to infirmed members and neighborhood folks. All in all, the Oakmont United Methodist Church strives to be ambassadors of Jesus Christ to all people with a sincere heart to the least, the lost and the lonely.
