Prayer for a Catastrophe

Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi

I invite you to join me in praying for all those affected by the sudden collapse of the 12-story residential building in Surfside, Florida in the early morning hours of June 24.

Oh God, our hearts are breaking for all of the families who have been impacted by the collapse of the residential building in Surfside, Florida.  We thank you for the civilians and first responders who immediately rescued and provided comfort to victims. We pray for the physical and emotional healing for those who were rescued.
And, Almighty, Everlasting, gracious God we ask that you pour out your Holy Spirit over those who continue to search for people who are still missing.  Give those responders all of the wisdom, resources, courage, stamina, and compassion they need to find those buried in rubble.  Give those working with waiting families the compassion and grace they need to provide some measure of peace in the midst of an unbelievably agonizing situation.
God, we cannot even imagine the torment of those who are waiting to be rescued or the anguish of those waiting for their loved ones to be found. We pray that you lavish those who are trapped with your divine presence and merciful healing power. Shower the families who await word about their loved ones with the support of the community.  God, please dispatch angels to minister to all involved.
Pour out your healing power.  Pour out your divine wisdom.  Pour out your comforting spirit.  In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Amen
