The Western Pennsylvania Conference is made up of about 800 local churches in 23 counties. Total membership is just over 150,000. The Conference serves as a connection between the worldwide United Methodist Church and the congregations in the region.
Led by a resident Bishop, the Conference is governed both by the denomination's Book of Discipline and actions agreed on by clergy and lay representatives of its local churches who meet in an Annual Conference session. The Bishop is assisted by a "cabinet" of 10 district superintendents, who each oversee 60 to 70 churches in a geographic area within the Conference, and a Conference staff.
