Commit 2019 offers an opportunity for local church Confirmation Classes to meet our Bishop, worship together, dig deeper into this thing we call Discipleship at one of our Conference camps or the UM Conference Center in Cranberry Township.
After many years of hosting classes on multiple days at the United Methodist Center in Cranberry Township for a sampling of connectional ministries and a visit with the Bishop, the staff took the show on the road for the first time in 2018. Sessions were offered at each of our camps to cut down on travel time for groups and allow for more active breakout sessions.
Space is limited at all of our locations, especially at the Conference Center, so register as soon as possible. (If you choose one of the camps, consider turning your visit into a retreat by booking an overnight stay and exploring the camp facilities. Overnight reservations must be made with the individual camps -- and will require payment of fees.)
Confirmation Class Dates and Locations:
- March 8, Friday Wesley Woods - 10am - 4pm
- March 15, Friday Jumonville - 10am - 4pm
- March 22, Friday Camp Allegheny - 10am - 4pm
- March 29, Friday Conference Center - 10am - 3pm
- March 30, Saturday Conference Center - 10am - 3pm
Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis. Please have a confirmed number of students and adults in your group when you register. Lunch will be provided at all sites and we need accurate numbers to order and prepare food. If you are unable to attend after you register your group, or the number of students/adults changes, contact Rev. Alyce Weaver Dunn at the Conference Center.
Sign-in for each gathering will begin at 9:30 a.m. The event will begin promptly with worship at 10 a.m.
In the unlikely event of snow or weather cancellations, we will alert all participants of cancellations only. We will also follow up as soon as possible with notice through email. In the event of a weather delay, we will operate on a normal schedule throughout the day.
School Release Forms
For the Friday gatherings, we encourage you to download this School Release form, print it out on church letterhead and send it to the student's school to properly excuse the student from class on the day of the event.
What to Bring
The youth are invited to bring some items for UMCOR school kits. Kits will be assembled during the gatherings, so don't bring completed kits. Donations of items are welcomed, but not required. Particularly needed are round-tip scissors (not plastic), Crayons in boxes of 24, rulers, and pencil sharpeners (with caps). See the full list of kit ingredients and a video under Relief Supplies at UMCOR.org. It's important to bring the exact type of item listed (for example, crayons in a box of 24) because shipping regulations often require that items in a package are uniform size, weight, etc.
