Special Sundays

The are 8 Special Offerings, approved by our Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference, to be
celebrated each year in the local church.  
In addition, there are 6 Special Offerings established by the General Church to be celebrated
yearly in local churches.


01/20/2013 - Human Relations Day

(General Church) The Sunday before Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday observance, supports Community Developers, United Methodist Voluntary Services and the Youth Offender Rehabilitation Program.

02/17/2013 - Disability Awareness

(Western PA Conference) Special offering to promote awareness issues and ministries that provide opportunities for fuller inclusion of people with disabilities.

03/01/2013 - VIM Recognition and Awareness

(Western PA Conference) All Sunday's in March. Supports the Conference and Jurisdictional UMVIM offices and programs, with 90% of funds collected going to the Conference VIMship Advance Special, and a tithe of 10% to the Jurisdictional UMVIM programming efforts.

03/10/2013 - One Great Hour of Sharing

(General Church) The fourth Sunday of Lent, provides major support of the United Methodist Committee on Relief, which aids in refugee ministries, disaster-response ministries and hunger ministries.

04/14/2013 - Native American Ministries

(General Church) The second Sunday after Easter, funds urban ministries with Native Americans, scholarships for Native Americans attending United Methodist seminaries and annual conference Native American ministries.

05/12/2013 - Golden Cross/Red Stocking

(Western PA Conference) Supports the Health and Welfare Ministries of our church. Specifically, these funds are given to Wesbury Community in Meadville, Arbutus Park Manor in Johnstown, and United Methodist Services for the Aging in Mt. Lebanon. Offerings can be taken in in May (Golden Cross) or Advent (Red Stocking).

05/26/2013 - Peace with Justice

(General Church) The second Sunday of Pentecost, supports peace with justice ministries through the General Board of Church and Society and the annual conference.

08/11/2013 - Rural Life Sunday

(Western PA Conference) The annual conference determines the date and how the offering will be used to strengthen the nurture, outreach, and witness of congregations in town and rural areas.

09/15/2013 - Christian Education

(Western PA Conference) The conference determines the date and how the offering is used to strengthen Christian education.

10/06/2013 - World Wide Communion

(General Church) The first Sunday in October, supports Crusade Scholarships, the Ethnic Scholarship Program, and the Ethnic In-Service Training Program.

10/13/2013 - Camping and Retreat Ministries

(Western PA Conference) Supports the summer program in order to reduce registration costs for participants.

11/03/2013 - Youth Service Fund Sunday

(Western PA Conference) Supports projects of mission and ministry by and for youth as well as administration of the fund.

11/24/2013 - United Methodist Student Sunday

(General Church) The last Sunday in November, provides loan and scholarship funds for United Methodist college, university, and graduate students.

Advent 2013 - Doors to Hope at Home

(Western PA Conference) For continued support of the five Western PA Conference regional mission agencies, within the Conference boundaries with additional funds to continue and expand their work.

Advent 2013 - Golden Cross/Red Stocking
