Erma J. Shindledecker, 96, formerly of New Castle, passed away December 27, 2014 at Golden Living Nursing Home in Camp Hill, PA. She was the widow of Rev. Ormel G. Shindledecker.

Born July 5, 1918 in New Castle, she was a daughter of H. Clair and Ella May McConnell Matthews. Erma was a 1937 graduate of New Castle High School. 

She was preceded in death on February 11, 1992 by her husband of 51 years, Rev. Ormel G. Shindledecker, whom she married April 4, 1940. Together, they served many Methodist churches in Western PA and New York. Erma was a member of First United Methodist Church of New Castle. 

She enjoyed being a homemaker and spent her leisure time sewing, quilting and doing needlework. 

She is survived by her son James D. (Cary) Shindledecker of Corry, PA; two daughters, Nancy Nuhfer of Venus, PA, and Shirley (Joseph) Hall of York Haven, PA; grandchildren, Mark Nuhfer of Eatonton,, GA, David (Marina) Shindledecker of Erie, PA, Todd Nuhfer, Matthew Jennings of Lawrenceville, GA, Craig (Amanda) Shindledecker of Lakewood, CO, Kevin (Mandy) Nuhfer of Milledgeville, GA; Kiely (Brett) Hall LaValley of Conshohocken, PA, and Emily (Nate) Ruble of Claymont, Del; and seven great-grandchildren, Kathryn, Alex, John, and Anna Shindledecker, Summer and Hope Nuhfer, and Mason Nuhfer. 

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Doris Jean Shindledecker; a son-in-law, Michael Nuhfer; and three sisters, Hazel Holsapfel, Pearl Bodendorfer, and Ida Grace Matthews; and a brother, Finley Matthews. 

A funeral service was scheduled Dec. 31 at the  R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. with the Rev. Thomas Scott officiating. Burial was in King's Chapel Cemetery.
