Lynn, Rev. Carol E.
The Rev. Carol E. (Sayenga) Lynn, 75, of Hampton Township, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, surrounded by her family in the comfort of her home.
Born Sept. 20, 1936, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen (Frye) Sayenga. She was the beloved wife for 53 years to her high school sweetheart, James C. Lynn Jr., whom she married Aug. 23, 1958; loving mother of J. Curtis Lynn III, of Hampton, and Scott G. Lynn and his wife, Emily Morrison, of Maryland; sister of Donald A. Sayenga and his wife, Carlene, of Arizona; also survived by one dear granddaughter, Courtney H. Lynn, of Hampton.
Carol was a graduate of South Hills High School, earned her B.A. in English from University of Pittsburgh, and her M.Div. from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, where she received the Larry S. Nagle Pastoral Care Award and authored a complete training manual organizing pastoral care teams for more than 18 churches.
She became a chaplain at Allegheny General Hospital, later was a counselor at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and chaired Disabilities Awareness Committee for the Western PA Conference of United Methodist Church.
A published author, Carol has been writing all of her life. Her efforts included poetry, children's Bible programs, presentations, pastoral care manuals for laity and, most recently, her first complete authored book publication titled "Covenant Dilemma", which was published in September of 2011.
Carol suffered from Myasthenia Gravis for all of her adult life and along with her father, George A. Sayenga, founded, organized and empowered the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA as a center for diagnosis, education and extended care.
A memorial service was held Saturday,Oct. 1 in the Bakerstown United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Swineford and the Rev. Dr. Andrew Harvey co-officiating.
