Christian Education Sunday Helps to Form Disciples

In September,Western PA United Methodist churches celebrate Christian Education Sunday. In the midst of launching new Sunday School classes, begin new ministries, planning for Volunteers in Mission trips, starting new mid-week studies, and  invite and welcoming visitors, we give thanks for all of those who pass on the faith through Christian education and celebrate the ministries that help to form disciples.
This year, Sept. 13 is the day set by our annual conference members as Christian Education Sunday. Churches may choose another day to observe this Special Sunday and receive an offering to support the educational ministries of our  Conference.These include the educational and formational events organized  by Training and Resources, as well as the laity scholarships that enable youth and adults to attend events to enhance their spiritual journey or leadership skills.
“This year we’re asking our congregations to be creative in the ways they receive  the offering,” said the Rev. Beth Nelson, the director of training and resources, who  noted that due to the cost, envelopes are no longer provided for Conference Special  Sunday offerings.
“The need for laity scholarship funds is increasing and this past year we had more  requests than funds available,” she noted. Lay people with financial need my apply  for funds to attend Conference seminars or training, or help with Volunteers in Mission expenses. “Let’s meet the need this year! Together, we can make a positive difference. Support Christian Education Sunday this month!”
