Archives & History

Collects and preserves the historically significant records of the Conference and its agencies and assists local churches in preserving their records, compiling their histories, and celebrating their heritage.

Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns

Interprets, advocates, and works for the unity of the Christian church and encourages dialogue and cooperation with persons of other faiths.

Church & Society

Develops and promotes programs and action on issues of social justice based on the United Methodist Social Principles and legislative actions of the Annual Conference.

Communications

The Western Pennsylvania Conference Communications Commission and staff provide resources, news, information and training for ministries of our congregations and United Methodists. The commission is comprised of volunteers form Conference churches, laity and clergy.

Conference Connectional Network

 Includes representatives of all Conference agencies to act as the coordinating body to carry out directives of the Annual Conference, and serves as an executive agency to oversee and evaluate the work and ministries of the Conference between annual sessions.

Conference Rules

Reviews the Conference rules between Annual Conference sessions.

Conference Sessions

Cares for all matters related to the annual session of Western Pennsylvania United Methodist Church according to Discipline.

Discipleship

Leads and assists congregations and districts in their efforts to communicate and celebrate the redeeming and reconciling love of God, enabling persons to live as Christian disciples in the world.  These efforts include ministries such as Christian education, small group ministries, camping, retreat and outdoor activities, evangelism, stewardship, worship, laity development, Christian spiritual formation, devotional life, age-level, lifespan, family life ministries, and leadership education.

Episcopacy

Supports the Resident Bishop in the oversight of the spiritual and temporal affairs of the Church.

Equitable Compensation

Supports full-time clergy serving as pastors in churches of the Conference by allocating equitable compensation funds.

Ethnic Local Church Concerns

Guides the Conference in strategically addressing issues of racial and ethnic inclusion.

Extension Ministries

Finance & Administration

Develops, maintains, and administers a comprehensive and coordinated plan of fiscal and administrative policies, procedures, and management services for the Conference.

Global Ministries

Maintains the connectional relationship with the General Board of Global Ministries and provides support for mission initiatives within the Conference and around the world.

Health as Wholeness

Provides leadership, connection, and resources, to assist the people of Western Pennsylvania, to live lives that are wholistically healthy (body, mind and spirit) and therefore will enable them to more effectively fulfill the mission of the United Methodist Church, "to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world."

Laity

Fosters an awareness of the role of the laity in achieving the mission of the church within the local congregation and through ministries in the home, workplace, community and world; develops and promotes programs to cultivate an understanding of the theological and biblical basis for the life and work of the laity of the Conference.

Leadership Recruitment & Nominations

Assists in identifying the gifts and talents of the people within the Conference, and works to coordinate appropriate areas of service.  Prepares a slate of nominees to serve on Conference agencies.

Pensions

Manages and supports health care and pension benefits for clergy, their families and other church workers.

Poverty

Develops and implements a comprehensive plan for Western Pennsylvania’s response to the denomination’s Area of Focus on Poverty.

Religion & Race

Provides resources and training to enable the work of the local church ministries which focus on religion and race.
