Bishop Fisher at 2012 ML King Day Celebration

Bishop Violet Fisher offered a message on "making room at the table for all" during a Jan. 15 worship service celebrating Martin Luther King Day. Sponsored by the Greensburg and Pittsburgh districts, the service was hosted by First UM Church in Murrysville, PA.

SPARK 2012

About 550 youth and adult leaders attended SPARK Jan. 6-8 at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh. Justin Lookadoo was the keynote speaker.

Team Aids in Susquehanna Flood Recovery

Western PA United Methodists traveled to Central PA in the fall to help with flood recovery. Help will be needed in 2012. It's estimated that recovery will take two years.

2011 Community Builders Labs

The Rev. Jim Walker, director of congregational development, led Community Builders Labs in several areas of Western PA in the Fall of 2011. On Nov. 28, participants from all the labs gathered to worship, celebrate and exhange ideas.

North Huntingdon: Christ UMC Burns Mortgage

On Nov. 20, 2011 Christ UM Church in North Huntingdon Twp. celebrated Thanksgiving and burned their mortgage. The church will celebrate it's 50th anniversary in 2015.

2011 PA Anti-Poverty Summit

Shane Claiborne was the keynote speaker for the second annual anti-poverty summit sponosred by United Methodist Advocacy in Pennsylvania.

GBGM Commissions Michael Airgood as Missionary

Michael Airgood, 24, of Kane, PA was commissioned as a General Board of Global Ministries missionary on Oct. 11 in New York. He will serve in Ukraine.

Imagine NO Malaria-Pittsburgh Marathon

Imagine No Malaria is an official charity of the 2012 Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. Dr. Bob Todd of Christ Community UM Church in Butler is organizing the effort. He and a group from his church ran in the 2011 Marathon. Here are some photos.

2011 Stop Hunger Now Meal Packaging

Christ United Methodist Church rallied to make a difference in the lives of some of the 1.2 billion people in the world who don't have enough food to eat during Hunger Action Month. About 454 volunteers of all ages packaged 54,000 meals in six hours on September 17 for Stop Hunger Now.

Joplin Volunteers in Mission

2011 Youth School of Mission

Youth participants in the 2011 School of Mission completed several hands-on projects, building a ramp for handicap accessibility, working at a food pantry, helping with a children's program and laying a sidewalk at a mission agency.

2011 Uth4Mission

Youth from several churches and their leaders gathered at the University of Pittsburgh's Johnstown campus the first week of July for four days of hands-on mission work, fellowship and fun. Projects involved building, sprucing up homes, or reaching out through a VBS-type program for children. Conference Youth Director Renaye Hoffman coordinated the effort.
