Laity Day: Responding to Today's Culture

In today's culture, bullying has become a serious problem for children; what constitutes a family is ever-changing, with just 66 percent of children under 17 living with two married parents; and social media have completely changed the way we communicate.
What do these cultural changes mean for the church? How should followers of Christ respond? All laity are invited to a one-day training retreat, sponsored by the Conference Board of Laity, at Christ Community UMC in Butler to learn more about these situations and how to address them. Workshop sessions will include:
- Today's Family and the Church -- Rev. Jeff Bobin, Erie-Meadville District pastor
- Bullying and the Church -- Gay Mix, certified counselor and therapist
- Social Media and the Church -- Robert Penrose, high school teacher/coach,director of Lay Speaking Ministries
The cost of the event is $25, which includes registration, lunch and snacks.
