From its earliest days, the United Methodist Church has been
vitally active in Higher Education and Campus Ministry. In fact, one of
John Wesley's early ministries was the development of the "Holiness
Club" at Oxford University. Since that time, Methodists have expanded
that work throughout the world.
In
response to the gospel's commission to "go ye therefore and teach,"
American Methodism has founded more than 1,200 institutions of higher education,
among them some of the country's great colleges, universities, and theological
seminaries.
